(Boise) - Ada County Commissioners and Senator Mike Crapo today toured and joined in a ceremony to mark a lease and remodel agreement for the new Ada County Family Justice Center. The Center will mark the first time Idaho’s largest population center has a safe and secure one-stop assistance center for victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual abuse. The Ada County Family Justice Center is slated to open this summer at the site of the former Child Development Center located at 6th and Myrtle in downtown Boise.
Senator Crapo recently won approval to send $1 million in federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants to Ada County to aid in completion of the Family Justice Center. A final agreement and lease for the new building site has been entered into by the Ada County Commissioners. The Center will be operated by Ada County Prosecutor Greg Bower’s office, but will house a wide range of medical, counseling, legal assistance and other treatment options for victims of child abuse, domestic and sexual assault crimes.
Today’s lease signing finalizes plans to remodel the existing building in order to accommodate the local, state and private partners who will provide services to victims of domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault in one location.
The Boise-based development firm of OAAS LANEY, LLC has been selected to provide a long-term lease of the building for the Family Justice Center. In conjunction with the lease agreement, OAAS LANEY will retrofit the building to suit the Center's needs. The architectural firm of Cole + Poe has coordinated the Center's design in collaboration with all of the public and private team partners in the project. Ada County will operate the facility and is contributing $600,000 toward new construction and remodeling efforts. Additionally, OAAS LANEY will contribute an estimated $1 million to the improvements necessary to retrofit the facility. When completed, the Center will occupy over 17,000 square feet of space on the main floor and will have an additional 24,000 square feet in the lower level for other uses.
Bower said the partnership of those offering services to victims at the center will include local prosecuting and law enforcement agencies, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center and the St. Luke’s CARE Unit, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, victim advocacy groups and victim-witness coordinators. “This will be a safe one-stop facility unique to Idaho to offer the quickest response, treatment, counseling, prosecution, and other services relating to domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault,” said Commission Chairman Rick Yzaguirre.
